Herts County League Match Report vs Hatfield Nov 11th Won 44-28
This was a top of the table clash. Hatfield Phoenix top with Crosskeys 2 second. After our disappointing result against Kaden, when we lost by 1 goal through injury, we turned up with a determined squad of nine. Just as well. After we raced to a 7-1 lead, Beth turned her ankle and Lucie went on court. Hatfield came back at us to the end of the quarter which we won 8-5. We steadied, focussing on quick release when in possession and defending every ball when they were attacking — we won Q2: 11-6.
After that, though it was a hard fought game, there was only going to be one team in it. Both circles played very well, with Sue playing exceptionally well at GS. Our mid-court players kept possession and drove to our attacking third relentlessly.
This is a squad with good heart and spirit and a delight to support and coach. My player of the match: Jo W.
Final scores: 8-5, 11-6, 12-8, 13-9; 44-28.
Squad: Chaz, Sue, Beth, Lucie, Jo W, Maddie, Jo M, Rosa, (Georgia D).

Herts County League Match Report vs Harpenden 7th Oct
On a chilly October morning 7 Crosskeys ladies prepared to take on the might of Harpenden. and by might we mean literally. It’s not often Joyce meets her vertical match. After a cautious first quarter, where we were taken by surprise at the go-go gadget arms of the Harpenden GS, we were just 1 down at 9-10 and keen to get stuck in. A storming 2nd quarter saw the new attacking combo settle in with some lovely movement and feeding from Beth and Jo, and shooting accuracy sharpening up with some lovely holding by Joyce, pushing us to a 12-goal lead at the end of the second quarter.
Third (or ‘power’) quarter was all about the defence, with immense pressure being exerted by Jo.M, Rosa and Claire.M slowing our opponents right down in their attack, leading them to spend 30secs or more each time trying to get their shooters in a position to go for goal. Entering the 4th quarter with a decent cushion still intact, tiredness showed a little as we let them come back at us, however for Harpenden it was too little too late, with a convincing final score of 39-32 to Crosskeys cementing their fate. Player of the match: Jo.M at WD for multiple interceptions at a position not usually played (we’ll see about that…)

Harlow League Div 2 vs Tegate Falcons 5. Crosskeys 3 won 26-25
An exciting game played in the best netballing spirit by both teams. In the first half in both circles we played with flair. Georgia G sinking shots from everywhere in the circle and Claire making clean interceptions consistently. At our centre pass Beth was outstanding in her movement and frequently secured possession for us at the set piece. However, we gave away possession too often in court play to a well-drllled Tegate side and at half time we were down by about 5 goals.
We started the second half a bit shakily despite a new resolve to keep possession and gradually our mid-court play steadied and we started to pull back the deficit with solid perfomances from our mid-court five. Towards the end of the game we played consistently well overtaking Tegate and extending our lead to three goals. Inevitably they came back, but we held our nerve and went on to win by one goal. A great team effort.
My player of the match: Georgia G for consistent play around the circle and quality shooting.

Sunday 23rd Sept. Herts League Div 3 vs Turnford Crosskeys won 42-37
Crosskeys put out a talented but untried combination of players from rookie 14 year old Lucie to new player on the block, but steady as a rock, Chaz. We tore ahead in the first quarter — but we knew Turnford would come back at us and they did in the second quarter. We were up by 10 and then reduced to five.
We regrouped for the second half and had a change of tactic and positions and consolidated our lead to 9 at the end of the third quarter. Again we knew that they would throw everything at us in the last quarter and so it proved. Scores yo-yoed a bit but we never dropped below 5 ahead and ran out winners 42-37.
Full credit to Maddie and Beth playing up for us today. Georgia D and Rosa were outstanding in opposite circles and my player of the match was Erica.
Team: Chaz, Georgia D, Lucie, Beth, Erica, Maddie and Rosa.
